THE CALUMET REGION STRIDERS
GOLD CUP SERIES SCORING RULES

WHAT IS IT?

The 2017 Gold Cup Series consists of 30 officially designated road and cross country races. Each person who participates and completes the required number of races will receive an award.

WHO CAN ENTER?

You must first have an active Strider membership (Click here to Purchase Membership Online). A single or family membership is $15.00. The Gold Cup Series is optional (Click here to Purchase Gold Cup Participation Online) and the $25.00 participant fee is separate from the Strider membership fee. For a race to be included in your scoring, you must join the series no later than the day of your first race.

Age groups are determined by your age on July 1. Participants age 19 years and older will be required to complete 10 races. Participants age 18 years and younger are required to complete 5 races. There is no penalty if you do not complete the required number of races other than the forfeit of the participation award.

OFFICIAL AGE DIVISIONS for both male and female:

  • 8 and under; 9-10; 11-12; 13-14; 15-18; 19-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39;
  • 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70-74; 75-79; 80 and over;
  • Clydesdale (male 210 lbs and over); Athena (female 170 lbs and over).

Age group status is determined by your age on JULY 1. You will compete in that group for the entire Gold Cup Series year.

NEW COMPETITION RULES:

When a race offers separate competition groups for Clydesdale and Athena, if you are in the Clydesdale or the Athena group for Gold Cup, you MUST compete in those groups to receive Gold Cup points. Conversely, if you are not in the Clydesdale or Athena Gold Cup groups, you MAY NOT compete in those groups and receive Gold Cup points. Clydesdale and Athena divisions must weigh-in three (3) times per year (March-April, June-July, September-October) or otherwise forfeit all scored races within that class. In the event a Clydesdale or Athena forfeits his/her class due to weight disqualification, they will be allowed to enter their individual age division at that time, but not allowed to carry over any points from prior races. At this point, it would be like starting the series over from the beginning, but with no additional cost to the participant.

VERIFICATION OF AGE

Each member is expected to be truthful about their date of birth. To ensure that members compete within the appropriate age division, proof of age may be requested by the club at any time during the Gold Cup year. Members who provide an incorrect birth date on their membership or Gold Cup application may be banned from club and Gold Cup participation for life, at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

HOW IS THE SERIES SCORED?

If you are the fastest Gold Cup finisher in your age group, you will receive 100 points for that race. Second place receives 99, etc. Your best 10 (5 for 18 and under) finishes (any distance) will be scored for total points. You should check the posted Gold Cup Race Results to ensure that your finish place is recorded. You are responsible for contacting the club within 15 days (7 days for races after November 15) of the completion of an individual race to resolve missing or incorrect results.

TIE BREAKING CRITERIA:

In a tie for a given position in Gold Cup standings, the following criteria are examined in the order listed until a winner is determined:

  1. Most wins in head-to-head competition;
  2. Total distance of scored races (longer is winner); and
  3. Wins in longer races.

WHAT DO I GET FOR JOINING THE GOLD CUP SERIES?

You will receive the following:

  1. An official Gold Cup premium;
  2. A $1 or more discount when you pre-register for any of the races (except the Chicago Marathon) in the series;
  3. A participation award if you complete the required number of races in the series;
  4. A complimentary dinner at the awards banquet which takes place the following January.

To qualify for the early registration discount, you must meet each race director's deadline for early registration as stated on their application. Gold Cup discount(s) are generally not available after the early registration deadline.

WHAT ABOUT WALKERS?

We have tried separate categories for walkers but have not had enough participation. Therefore, walkers may compete in the Gold Cup Series, but must compete in the same category as runners. For a race to count, walkers must register as a runner and compete in the Gold Cup Series event, not a shorter or separate walk.

HAVE A GREAT RACING SEASON!
