Through the INSTEP newsletter, we hope to provide you with an excellent source to learn more about the Strider community. We are always looking for interesting articles to put into the newsletter and look forward to working with you all this 2010 season!

Graduating from Valparaiso University in 2001, I made the permanent move to Valpo from Wisconsin when I married my husband, Ehren, in 2005. I was never an avid runner, except for the occasional track meet when I was in grade school, but after some gentle encouragement from Michele Hale, current CRS President, I decided to sign up for my first 5K race. It was pouring down rain and I was soaked to the bone, but I finished. This sparked my curiosity to run more races and in 2008 I and my husband joined the Striders. We even completed our first half marathon in January 2009 in Key West, FL.

The competitive experience keeps me running. Not necessarily the drive to be the best, since I will never be; but the challenge to better my own time or, in a race, the thought that maybe I can pass just one more person ahead of me.

Have a great 2010 season! Hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet more of you this year at the races and other Strider events!
